Lead Organisation: Anglesey County Council
An innovative pilot project tailored for year 9 Anglesey pupils has been developed to help promote career opportunities within the health and social care sector.
Anglesey County Council – in partnership with the North Wales Health and Social Care Workforce Board, North Wales Regional Skills Partnership and We Care Wales led on the pilot project, which was a first of its kind in Wales.
Interactive events involving inspirational talks, activities and practical experiences were delivered across all Anglesey secondary schools between October and December 2024 with around 700 pupils involved.
The events provided pupils with an opportunity to learn about different job roles and career paths with partner organisations on hand to talk about the host of opportunities available within the health and social care sector.
“Careers and Work-related Education is an integral part of the Curriculum for Wales. The Health & Social Care workshops ran in all our secondary schools and provided learners on Anglesey with an excellent insight into the sector. Hundreds of young people were able to improve their understanding of this important work through a range of interactive activities run by people who work in the industry. The workshops illustrate what can be achieved through effective partnership working and engagement, providing young people with valuable experiences and also making them aware of career opportunities in Health and Social Care.”
Aaron Evans, Senior Manager Anglesey CC, (Secondary Sector)
“It is encouraging to see that the regional skills partnership is supporting the foundation economy sector, social care and health employment opportunities are key to strengthening the sector as a whole and any opportunity that raises the profile such as this pilot is very welcome.”
Jenny Williams, Strategic Director of Social Care and Education Services, Conwy & Chair of North Wales Health & Social Care Workforce Board
Along with increasing awareness of career opportunities within the sector, the programme provided pupils with practical insights and experiences to complement theoretical knowledge and dispel myths.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop today and took great delight in seeing our pupils fully engaged in some really imaginative activities. The buzz around the hall was incredible, as pupils moved around in a timely manner, to stations in which they gained insight into various roles and responsibilities within the Health and Social Care sector”.
