Anyone can become a carer.
Carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be any age. Many people don’t recognise themselves as carers, but they look after people with an illness, disability, frailty, addiction, mental health problem or learning disability or they may be parent carers.
Carers in Wales are supported under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 which ensures that carers, who provide unpaid care to family members or friends, have specific rights and access to support services.
Across North Wales, six local authorities are working in partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and third sector organisations to support carers. Each local authority offers a range of services and support tailored to carers where they live.
