On Monday 14th October 2019 North Wales Together held an event for providers of support for children and young people with learning disabilities. The event aimed to provide opportunities for service providers to network, share good practice, discuss, and feed into work plans.
55 professionals attended the event and had the opportunity to discuss several topics including active support, assistive technology, meaningful work, health, progression, support, risks, and staff recruitment, training, and retention.
Below are some comments from the event:
“It is supportive to hear from and work with another region who are experiencing the same issues and supporting each other to make improvements.”
“Meeting and listening to different people’s opinions and methods and strategies that work.”
As a result of the event, North Wales Together plan to hold regular engagement events that will be organised with providers. They also plan to send out a questionnaire around priorities for staff development, as although training was a thread through all topics and areas discussed during the event, it would be useful to assess if further training and development opportunities are needed and what the priorities are for providers.
